This 8000 sq.ft New Build House of contemporary design in Sutton is recently completed.
The planning permission was gained, despite being in an area of 'Special Policy', the planning officer's report stating 'the design is considered to be of high quality and would create a locally distinct building that would be a positive addition to the street and the area'.
The house features a full basement comprising garage, large family room, gym, media room and wine store. The ground floor is open plan necessitating steel frame construction, upper floors consist of a central glass atrium and 5 bedrooms with balconies to the rear. Issues of sustainability are addressed by the installation of a ground source heat pump heating system, solar water heating and rainwater recycling system.
The practice is gaining significant knowledge in the area of sustainability, demand for energy saving is on the increase as the cost of gas, electricity and water rises. Solar water heating typically covers 50% of hot water demand over the year and rainwater recycling provides filtered water for washing machines, flushing toilets and the garden. Both may be practically installed in properties of all sizes, whether refurbishment or a new-build.
